Our Story

We are wine journalists from Norway and have traveled the world to discover wine at its origin. Our Nordic winters are long, dark and cold and we started to bring groups to South Africa where the sun is shining, and the food and wine is excellent. We fell in love with this country, the nature and the people, and have created our dream house in the charming village of Riebeek-Kasteel, in the middle of the winelands of the Swartland. For lovers of wine, food and peaceful nature, we invite you to discover our hidden gem, Villa Rosenberg. Finished in 2025.

Village Life

Villa Rosenberg is situated on a gentle sloping hillside on a quiet street, surrounded by trees and happy birds. Weaver birds are abundant in the nesting season in the tall, old trees in the back. Restaurants and shops are only a 5 minutes’ walk away. Pick and Pay grocery store included.

Our favorites are:

RESTAURANTS
Au Bouchon Rouge, a French brasserie run by chef Julien Debray from Paris.
The Royal Hotel, one of South Africa’s oldest hotels with an art deco atmosphere, has a stoep (verandah) that is excellent for lunch, dinner and cocktails. Excellent wine list, same as at Au Bouchon Rouge.
Just opposite is La Parrilla, an informal place to meet the locals, and where quality meat dishes are served.
The Barn up to left from the Main Street, has beautiful views of the village and presents a full menu, also today’s specials.
To mingle with the local winemakers, join the Pizza nights on Thursdays at Kalmoesfontein, the Badenhorst Family Estate. Where the famous wine maker Adi Badenhors often appears.

COFFEE
For coffee, the roastery and café Beans About Coffee is the place just off the main square.

WINE
For wine, the Wine Kollective has the selection of famous Swartland producers like Eben Sadie, Adi Badenhorst, Chris and Andrea Mullineux, Callie Louw at Porseleinsberg, Jolandie Fouché at Wolf & Woman.

WINE ESTATES
To visit wine estates, Klovenburg from 1704 is situated a few minutes away, offering wine & olive oil tasting, and freshly made pizzas in the garden. Marras Wines and Meerhof Wines have a restaurant, Allesverloren and Swartland Winery offers tasting, and Riebeek Valley Wines are for sale in the Tasting Emporium in the Main Street.

SHOPPING & GALLERIES
Short Street has a selection of local craft:
Ancient Spirit presents designer clothes, hats, sunglasses, jewelry and a range of accessoires to recreate your image.
ROF-Style in a charming blue house offers leather boots to match your African look.
Lewis and Madge Leather presents artisanal leather bags in different colors and sizes.
